JEE Advanced 2027 Qualifying Cutoff: Minimum Marks and Percentile to Get IIT
Updated: 1 November 2026 | By AAYAM Career Institute, Indore
To reach an IIT, you must first be among the top 2,50,000 candidates in JEE Main 2027 Paper 1 and then score at least the category-wise qualifying marks in JEE Advanced 2027. For reference, the last cycle needed a 93.41 percentile in JEE Main 2026 and 92 out of 360 in JEE Advanced 2026 for General (CRL) candidates.
The 2027 cutoffs do not exist yet. NTA announces the JEE Main cutoff with the final result, and the organising IIT announces the JEE Advanced qualifying marks with its result. All figures below are from the 2025 and 2026 cycles and are labelled by year. Always confirm them on the official websites.
How You Qualify for IIT: Two Cutoffs, Then Counselling
Students often ask for one number that gets them into an IIT. In practice there are two separate cutoffs, followed by counselling. Clearing a cutoff only moves you to the next stage; it does not give you a seat on its own.
| Stage | What you need | Who sets it |
|---|---|---|
| 1. JEE Main 2027 | Rank among the top 2,50,000 in Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech), shared across categories | NTA, announced as a category-wise percentile |
| 2. JEE Advanced 2027 | Minimum marks in each subject and in aggregate for your category's rank list | The organising IIT, announced with the result |
| 3. IIT admission | A JEE Advanced rank good enough for a seat, plus the Class 12 marks condition | JoSAA counselling |
You also need to meet the JEE Advanced eligibility rules on age and attempts. These are covered in our guide to JEE Main 2027 eligibility criteria, which includes a section on JEE Advanced 2027.
Percentile Required for JEE Advanced: JEE Main 2026 Cutoff
NTA does not fix a qualifying percentile before the exam. After the final JEE Main result, it takes the top 2,50,000 Paper 1 candidates, distributed across categories as per the reservation rules, and announces the percentile of the last qualifier in each category. That percentile is the cutoff.
For the 2026 cycle, NTA announced these cutoffs with the Session 2 result in April 2026:
| Category | JEE Main 2026 qualifying percentile for JEE Advanced 2026 |
|---|---|
| General (UR) | 93.4123549 |
| GEN-EWS | 82.4164528 |
| OBC-NCL | 80.9232583 |
| SC | 63.9172792 |
| ST | 52.0174712 |
The General cutoff has stayed in a narrow band in recent years. It was 93.1023262 in JEE Main 2025 and 93.4123549 in JEE Main 2026. The reserved-category cutoffs also rose in 2026.
Minimum Marks in JEE Mains to Qualify for JEE Advanced
There is no official marks cutoff for JEE Main. NTA reports results as percentiles. Your percentile shows the percentage of candidates in your session who scored equal to or below you. Because JEE Main is held over several shifts with different papers, NTA normalises scores across shifts. The same raw score can therefore give different percentiles in different shifts.
Be careful with "marks vs percentile" charts. They are estimates made by education websites, not official NTA data. Use them as a rough guide only, and aim for a percentile comfortably above your category's previous cutoff.
JEE Main 2027 is held in two sessions, in January and April 2027. If you take both, your better NTA score is used. Session 1 registration is open now; see the JEE Main 2027 registration dates.
Minimum Marks in JEE Advanced to Get IIT for General, OBC, SC and ST
JEE Advanced has two papers, and the combined total in the last two cycles was 360. To be included in a rank list, you must score at least the minimum marks in each subject (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) and the minimum aggregate for your category. These minimums are announced by the organising IIT with the result.
| Rank list | JEE Advanced 2026 minimum aggregate (out of 360) | JEE Advanced 2025 minimum aggregate (out of 360) |
|---|---|---|
| Common Rank List (CRL / General) | 92 (25.56%) | 76 |
| GEN-EWS | 82 (22.78%) | 66 |
| OBC-NCL | 82 (22.78%) | 66 |
| SC | 46 (12.78%) | 37 |
| ST | 46 (12.78%) | 37 |
| PwD | 46 (12.78%) | 37 |
The JEE Advanced 2026 result was declared on 1 June 2026 and the 2025 result on 2 June 2025. Subject-wise minimums are also set for each list, but reports of the exact 2026 subject-wise figures differ, so we have left them out. Check the official result notice on jeeadv.ac.in for the subject-wise marks.
JEE Advanced 2027 Expected Cutoff
The JEE Advanced 2027 qualifying marks cannot be predicted with any accuracy. They depend on how difficult the 2027 papers turn out to be. The last two cycles show how much they can move: the General (CRL) minimum went from 76 in 2025 to 92 in 2026.
The 2027 qualifying marks are expected to be announced with the JEE Advanced 2027 result, likely in early June 2027, based on the June result dates of the last two cycles. The organising IIT and the exact dates will be in the JEE Advanced 2027 brochure, which is not out yet.
A practical way to plan: treat the previous year's qualifying mark as a floor, not a target. Students who want a good IIT branch need to score well above it, with no weak subject, since a low score in one subject alone can keep you off the rank list.
Qualifying JEE Advanced vs Getting an IIT Seat
Qualifying JEE Advanced gives you a rank. It does not give you a seat. IIT seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling, based on your category rank, the choices you fill and the seats available. Popular branches at older IITs close at much better ranks than the qualifying mark suggests.
You also need to meet the Class 12 condition. In the last JoSAA cycle, this was 75% aggregate in Class 12 (65% for SC, ST and PwD) or a place in your board's category-wise top 20 percentile. Check the JoSAA 2027 rules on josaa.nic.in when they are released.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the minimum marks in JEE Advanced to get IIT for the General category?
In JEE Advanced 2026, General (CRL) candidates needed at least 92 out of 360 in aggregate, along with a minimum in each subject, to be ranked. In 2025 it was 76. Qualifying only puts you on the rank list; getting an IIT seat needs a much better rank, which depends on the branch and institute.
What are the minimum marks in JEE Advanced for OBC candidates?
OBC-NCL and GEN-EWS candidates needed at least 82 out of 360 in JEE Advanced 2026, and 66 in JEE Advanced 2025. The 2027 figure will be announced with the JEE Advanced 2027 result.
What percentile is required in JEE Main to appear for JEE Advanced?
There is no fixed percentile. NTA sets the cutoff so that the top 2,50,000 Paper 1 candidates qualify. In 2026 this came to 93.4123549 percentile for General, 82.4164528 for GEN-EWS, 80.9232583 for OBC-NCL, 63.9172792 for SC and 52.0174712 for ST.
What are the minimum marks in JEE Main to qualify for JEE Advanced?
NTA does not publish a marks cutoff. Results are given as percentiles, normalised across shifts, so the same percentile can correspond to different raw marks in different shifts. Aim for a percentile safely above your category's previous-year cutoff rather than a fixed mark.
What will the JEE Advanced 2027 cutoff be?
Nobody can know it in advance. It depends on how difficult the 2027 paper is. The General qualifying mark moved from 76 in 2025 to 92 in 2026, so it can change a lot from one year to the next.
Does qualifying JEE Advanced guarantee an IIT seat?
No. Qualifying only gives you a rank. Seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling based on that rank, your choices and the seats available. You also need 75% in Class 12 (65% for SC, ST and PwD) or a place in your board's top 20 percentile, as per the last JoSAA cycle.
What are the qualifying marks for SC and ST candidates in JEE Advanced?
SC, ST and PwD candidates needed at least 46 out of 360 in JEE Advanced 2026, and 37 in JEE Advanced 2025, along with a minimum in each subject.
