NEET 2027 Age Limit

Minimum age: 17 years on 31 December 2027

You must complete 17 years of age on or before 31 December 2027, the year of admission. In other words, your date of birth must be on or before 31 December 2010. Your age is checked against the date of birth on your Class 10 certificate.

Date of birthAge on 31 Dec 2027Eligible for NEET 2027?
On or before 31 December 201017 years or moreYes
1 January 2011 or laterUnder 17 yearsNo; eligible from NEET 2028 onwards

Upper age limit: none

There is no upper age limit for NEET UG. The National Medical Commission removed the earlier cap of 25 years (30 for reserved categories) in 2022, so droppers, repeaters and candidates who finished school years ago can all apply.

Class 12 Subjects Required for NEET 2027

You must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board with these four subjects, passing each one individually, including the practical exams:

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology or Biotechnology
  • English

Students who will appear in the Class 12 board exam in 2027 can apply for NEET 2027. Their admission depends on passing Class 12 with the required subjects and marks. CBSE, MP Board and other state board students are treated the same.

Minimum Class 12 Marks for NEET 2027

The minimum marks apply to your aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology taken together. Marks in English, Mathematics and other subjects are not counted.

CategoryMinimum aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology
General / General-EWS50%
General-PwBD45%
OBC (non-creamy layer)40%
SC40%
ST40%
OBC / SC / ST with PwBD40%

These marks make you eligible for admission. They are not the NEET cutoff, which is a separate percentile you must reach in the NEET exam (see below).

How Many Attempts Are Allowed in NEET?

There is no limit on the number of NEET attempts. You can take NEET every year as long as you meet the age and qualification criteria. Many students improve their score in a focused drop year; see AAYAM's NEET coaching in Indore for the dropper and repeater batches.

NIOS Students and Biology as an Additional Subject

Under the National Medical Commission's Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023, students who passed Class 12 through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) or a state open school are eligible for NEET UG, provided they studied the required subjects.

The same regulations accept Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English passed as additional subjects from a recognised board, including after Class 12. A student who passed Class 12 with PCM can therefore become eligible by passing Biology or Biotechnology as an additional subject.

Read the exact wording on additional subjects in the NEET UG 2027 Information Bulletin when it is released, and keep the additional-subject marksheet with your other documents.

Nationality: Who Can Apply?

Indian nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and foreign nationals can apply for NEET UG. Which seats you can be admitted to depends on your nationality and the quota rules of each counselling authority.

Eligibility vs the NEET Qualifying Percentile

Meeting the eligibility criteria lets you sit the exam. To be considered for MBBS, BDS and other seats in counselling, you must also qualify NEET by reaching the minimum percentile for your category:

CategoryMinimum percentile to qualify NEET
General / General-EWS50th percentile
General-PwBD45th percentile
OBC / SC / ST (including PwBD)40th percentile

Qualifying NEET does not guarantee a seat. Government MBBS seats close at much higher scores; see the college-wise closing marks in our MP MBBS cutoff 2026 analysis.

Eligibility for Madhya Pradesh Students

The NEET eligibility rules above are the same for every state. For admission through Madhya Pradesh state counselling, the Directorate of Medical Education, MP applies its own rules, including domicile conditions for state quota seats. Read how MP NEET counselling works before you fill your choices.
