NEET 2027 Qualifying Marks and Expected Cutoff: Minimum Marks by Category

Updated: 7 November 2026 | By AAYAM Career Institute, Indore

NEET qualifying marks are set by percentile, not by a fixed score: to qualify NEET 2027 you will need to reach the 50th percentile if you are General or EWS, the 45th percentile if you are General-PwBD, and the 40th percentile if you are OBC, SC or ST. In the NEET UG 2026 result, that meant a minimum of 213 out of 720 for General and EWS candidates and 177 out of 720 for OBC, SC and ST candidates.

50thPercentile for General / EWS
213 / 720General qualifying marks, NEET 2026
177 / 720OBC, SC, ST qualifying marks, NEET 2026

NTA has not yet released the NEET UG 2027 Information Bulletin. The percentile rule on this page is the one NTA has applied every year, and the marks shown are from past results (2023 to 2026), each labelled with its year. The actual NEET 2027 qualifying marks will be known only when NTA declares the result.

NEET Qualifying Percentile by Category

NTA does not fix NEET qualification marks in advance. Instead, it fixes a minimum percentile for each category, and the marks that match that percentile are worked out after the exam from the scores of all candidates. This rule has stayed the same in every recent NEET UG cycle:

CategoryQualifying percentile for NEET
General (UR) / General-EWS50th percentile
General-PwBD / EWS-PwBD45th percentile
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)40th percentile
SC40th percentile
ST40th percentile
OBC / SC / ST-PwBD40th percentile

The percentile you need depends on the category you claim in your application, and you must hold a valid category certificate at counselling. If you are unsure about the Class 12 marks and age conditions, read our NEET 2027 eligibility criteria guide; those are separate from the qualifying percentile.

NEET 2026 Qualifying Cutoff Marks

NEET UG 2026 was first held on 3 May 2026. That exam was cancelled, and NTA held it again on 21 June 2026. The result of the re-exam was declared on 16 July 2026 with these category-wise qualifying marks:

CategoryQualifying percentileNEET UG 2026 marks range (out of 720)
General / EWS50th715 – 213
OBC40th212 – 177
SC40th212 – 177
ST40th212 – 177
General / EWS-PwBD45th212 – 194
OBC-PwBD40th193 – 177
SC-PwBD40th193 – 177

The ST-PwBD range was reported with a lower end of 177 by some sources and 178 by others, so we have not listed it. Check the official NTA result notice on neet.nta.nic.in if this applies to you.

NEET Minimum Marks in Previous Years

The percentile rule is fixed, but the marks it produces change every year. Here is the lower end of the qualifying range (out of 720) for the last four years:

YearGeneral / EWS (50th percentile)OBC / SC / ST (40th percentile)
NEET UG 2026 (re-exam)213177
NEET UG 2025144113
NEET UG 2024 (revised)162127
NEET UG 2023137107

The 2024 figures are from the revised result NTA released later that year; the first result had shown 164 for General and 129 for OBC, SC and ST. For General-PwBD candidates, the minimum was 127 in NEET 2025 and 194 in NEET 2026.

The jump in 2026 is large. Qualifying marks rise when more candidates score well, which usually happens when a paper is easier. NTA has not published an official reason for the change, so treat any explanation as an opinion.

Expected NEET 2027 Qualifying Cutoff

Nobody can give the exact NEET 2027 cutoff before the result, because it depends on how hard the NEET 2027 paper is and how every candidate scores. What past results do show is the range: in the last four years, the General cutoff has been between 137 and 213, and the OBC, SC and ST cutoff between 107 and 177.

Based on that history, the NEET 2027 qualifying marks are expected to fall roughly in the same band, but a much easier or harder paper could push them outside it. Do not plan around a qualifying score. A student scoring just above 213 in 2026 qualified, but was far away from a government MBBS seat.

The NEET 2027 exam mode (pen-and-paper or computer-based) has not been confirmed by NTA. See our NEET 2027 CBT mode page for the latest position.

NEET Percentile vs Marks: What the 50th Percentile Means

A percentile is your position in the list of all candidates, not a percentage of 720. Being at the 50th percentile means you are in the upper half of the candidates who took the exam. It does not mean you scored 360.

NEET 2026 had 180 questions worth 720 marks, with +4 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one. The marks at the 50th percentile have stayed well below half of 720 in every year above. To see how marks turn into an All India Rank, read our NEET marks vs rank analysis.

Qualifying Marks vs Admission Cutoff

Qualifying NEET only makes you eligible to take part in counselling for MBBS, BDS and AYUSH courses: the All India Quota counselling run by MCC on mcc.nic.in and state counselling such as MP NEET UG counselling. Seats are then allotted by rank, category and choice.

The closing marks for government MBBS seats are much higher than the qualifying marks. For real numbers from the last cycle, see the college-wise MP MBBS cutoff 2026. Frequently Asked Questions

What are the qualifying marks for NEET 2027?

NEET 2027 qualifying marks will be announced with the result. You will need to reach the 50th percentile (General and EWS), the 45th percentile (General-PwBD) or the 40th percentile (OBC, SC, ST and their PwBD candidates). In NEET 2026, this was 213 marks for General and 177 marks for OBC, SC and ST.

What is the minimum marks in NEET to qualify for the General category?

There is no fixed minimum mark. General candidates must reach the 50th percentile. The marks at the 50th percentile were 213 in NEET 2026, 144 in NEET 2025, 162 in NEET 2024 (revised) and 137 in NEET 2023.

Is qualifying NEET enough to get an MBBS seat?

No. Qualifying makes you eligible for counselling. Seats are allotted by rank, and the marks needed for a government MBBS seat are far higher than the qualifying marks.

Why did the NEET qualifying marks go up so much in 2026?

Qualifying marks depend on how all candidates score. NEET UG 2026 was held again on 21 June 2026 after the 3 May exam was cancelled, and the marks at the 50th percentile on that paper were higher (213) than in 2025 (144). NTA does not give official reasons for the change.

Is the NEET qualifying percentile the same as percentage?

No. A percentile shows your position among all candidates, not the share of marks you scored. The 50th percentile is not 50% of 720; it has been between 137 and 213 marks in the last four years.

Can I predict the exact NEET 2027 cutoff?

No one can predict it exactly, because it depends on the difficulty of the NEET 2027 paper and how all candidates perform. Past years give a useful range, but treat any figure before the result as an estimate.

Which courses need NEET qualifying marks?

Qualifying NEET is needed for admission to MBBS and BDS, and to AYUSH courses such as BAMS, BHMS, BUMS and BSMS, through counselling. Some other courses also use NEET scores; check each course's admission rules.

Aim Above the Qualifying Line

Qualifying marks are the floor, not the target. AAYAM's classroom NEET batches in Indore are built around the full NCERT syllabus and regular tests for Class 11, Class 12 and droppers.
