NEET 2027 Weightage
NEET 2027 Chapter-wise Weightage for Biology, Chemistry and Physics
Updated: 6 November 2026 | By AAYAM Career Institute, Indore
NTA does not publish an official chapter-wise weightage for NEET UG, so every NEET weightage table is an estimate built from past papers. In AAYAM's chapter-by-chapter count of the NEET 2026 paper, Genetics and Evolution (14 questions), Human Physiology (12) and Ecology (11) carried the most Biology questions, Physical Chemistry led Chemistry with 16 questions, and electricity and magnetism made up 14 of the 45 Physics questions.
The question counts on this page come from AAYAM faculty's analysis of the NEET UG 2026 paper held on 3 May 2026 (the exam that NTA later cancelled and held again). They show what one paper looked like. They are not official NTA data and not a prediction of the NEET 2027 paper. Always prepare from the official syllabus on neet.nta.nic.in.
How NEET Chapter-wise Weightage Is Worked Out
NTA releases the NEET UG syllabus and the exam pattern, but it never says how many questions will come from each chapter. A weightage table is made by taking a real paper, sorting every question by chapter and counting them.
The tables on this page come from that kind of count. AAYAM's faculty sorted all 180 questions of the NEET UG 2026 paper held on 3 May 2026 by chapter. That exam was later cancelled by NTA and held again, but the paper is still a useful picture of how the current NMC syllabus is being tested. You can see the full count, with difficulty and expected cutoff, in our NEET 2026 paper analysis.
One paper is only one sample. NEET follows NCERT closely, so the large units such as Genetics, Human Physiology and Ecology tend to carry many questions year after year, but the exact count for any single chapter moves up and down. Use these numbers to set priorities, not to predict the NEET 2027 paper.
NEET Paper Pattern: Where the 720 Marks Come From
In NEET UG 2025 and 2026, the paper had 180 compulsory questions in 3 hours, with no optional questions. Each correct answer earned 4 marks and each wrong answer cost 1 mark. NTA has not yet released the NEET UG 2027 Information Bulletin, so the table below shows the 2026 pattern.
| Subject | Questions | Marks (+4 each) | Share of paper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Biology (Botany + Zoology) | 90 | 360 | 50% |
| Chemistry | 45 | 180 | 25% |
| Physics | 45 | 180 | 25% |
| Total | 180 | 720 | 100% |
Each question is worth 4 marks, so one extra correct answer in any chapter adds 4 marks, and one wrong guess costs 5 marks compared with getting it right. Whether NEET 2027 will move to computer-based testing is still undecided; see our page on NEET 2027 in CBT mode for the latest status.
NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage
Biology has 90 questions, half of the whole paper. In the NEET 2026 paper, Genetics and Evolution, Human Physiology and Ecology together gave 37 questions, which is 148 marks. Ecology on its own had 11 questions, the most of any single chapter in the paper.
| Biology unit | Chapters counted | Questions in NEET 2026 (out of 90) |
|---|---|---|
| Genetics and Evolution | Principles of Inheritance (5), Molecular Basis of Inheritance (6), Evolution (3) | 14 |
| Human Physiology | Respiration (2), Circulation (2), Excretion (2), Locomotion (3), Neural (2), Endocrine (1) | 12 |
| Ecology | Organisms and Populations, Ecosystem, Biodiversity | 11 |
| Cell Structure and Function | Cell (4), Biomolecules (5), Cell Cycle and Division (1) | 10 |
| Reproduction | Sexual Reproduction in Flowering Plants (4), Human Reproduction (3), Reproductive Health (2) | 9 |
| Diversity in the Living World | Living World (1), Biological Classification (1), Plant Kingdom (1), Animal Kingdom (5) | 8 |
| Structural Organisation | Morphology (4), Anatomy (3), Animal Tissues / Frog (1) | 8 |
| Biotechnology | Principles and Processes (5), Applications (3) | 8 |
| Plant Physiology | Photosynthesis (3), Respiration in Plants (2), Plant Growth (2) | 7 |
| Biology and Human Welfare | Human Health and Disease (2), Microbes in Human Welfare (1) | 3 |
Biology questions were mostly direct and based on NCERT lines, diagrams and examples. Molecular Basis of Inheritance (6 questions), Principles of Inheritance, Animal Kingdom and Biomolecules (5 each) were the heaviest chapters after Ecology. Careful, repeated NCERT reading is the single biggest lever in this section.
NEET Chemistry Chapter-wise Weightage
Chemistry has 45 questions, and in the NEET 2026 paper they were spread almost evenly across the three branches.
| Chemistry branch | Questions in NEET 2026 (out of 45) |
|---|---|
| Physical Chemistry | 16 |
| Organic Chemistry | 15 |
| Inorganic Chemistry | 14 |
The chapters that carried the most Chemistry questions were:
| Chemistry chapter | Branch | Questions in NEET 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Hydrocarbons | Organic | 4 |
| Chemical and Ionic Equilibrium | Physical | 3 |
| Chemical Kinetics | Physical | 3 |
| Chemical Bonding | Inorganic | 3 |
| Coordination Compounds | Inorganic | 3 |
| d- and f-Block Elements | Inorganic | 3 |
| Practical Organic Chemistry | Organic | 3 |
| Atomic Structure, Mole Concept, Thermodynamics, Solutions, Electrochemistry | Physical | 2 each |
| Periodicity, p-Block Elements | Inorganic | 2 each |
| Haloalkanes and Haloarenes | Organic | 2 |
Inorganic Chemistry questions such as Coordination Compounds, d- and f-Block and p-Block are largely NCERT-based, so reading the NCERT text and tables closely pays off. Practical Organic Chemistry and salt analysis made the section slightly tricky in 2026, so do not leave the practical-based topics in the syllabus until the end.
NEET Physics Chapter-wise Weightage
Physics has 45 questions. In the NEET 2026 paper, electricity and magnetism together gave 14 questions, Mechanics and Modern Physics gave 8 each, and Current Electricity, with 5 questions, was the heaviest single chapter.
| Physics unit | Chapters counted | Questions in NEET 2026 (out of 45) |
|---|---|---|
| Electrostatics and Current Electricity | Electrostatics and Capacitors (3), Current Electricity (5) | 8 |
| Mechanics | Motion in 1D (2), Laws of Motion (2), Work-Energy (1), Rotation (2), Gravitation (1) | 8 |
| Modern Physics and Electronics | Dual Nature (2), Atoms and Nuclei (3), Semiconductors (3) | 8 |
| Magnetism, EMI, AC and EM Waves | Magnetic Effects (2), EMI (1), AC (2), EM Waves (1) | 6 |
| Optics | Ray Optics (2), Wave Optics (2) | 4 |
| Oscillations and Waves | SHM (3), Waves (1) | 4 |
| Properties of Matter and Thermal Physics | Fluids and Properties of Matter (2), KTG and Thermodynamics (2) | 4 |
| Units and Measurements | Units, Dimensions and Errors | 3 |
Most Physics questions were numericals based on standard formulas rather than very long problems, so speed and accuracy mattered more than difficult concepts. Short chapters like Units and Dimensions (3 questions) and Semiconductors (3) gave quick marks to students who had revised them.
Class 11 vs Class 12 Weightage in NEET
In the NEET 2026 paper, Class 12 topics had slightly more questions than Class 11, but the split was close to even.
| Subject | Class 11 questions | Class 12 questions |
|---|---|---|
| Biology | 44 | 46 |
| Chemistry | 20 | 25 |
| Physics | 19 | 26 |
| Total | 83 | 97 |
Class 12 students often leave Class 11 revision for the end. With 83 questions, or about 46% of the paper, coming from Class 11, that is a costly mistake. Plan Class 11 revision from the start of Class 12.
How to Use Chapter Weightage in Your NEET 2027 Preparation
Use weightage to set priorities, not to cut the syllabus. A practical approach for Class 11, Class 12 and dropper students:
- Make the big Biology units strong first: Genetics and Evolution, Human Physiology, Ecology, Cell and Biomolecules and Reproduction together gave 56 of the 90 Biology questions in 2026.
- Read NCERT line by line: most Biology and Inorganic Chemistry questions come directly from NCERT text, diagrams and tables.
- Do not skip short chapters: chapters with one or two questions are often quick to learn and give easy marks.
- Solve previous-year questions chapter by chapter: this shows you how each chapter is actually tested.
- Take full-length mock tests: they show which chapters cost you marks under time pressure. Try our free NEET 2027 mock test papers.
- Check the official syllabus: prepare from the syllabus in the NEET UG 2027 Information Bulletin on neet.nta.nic.in once it is released.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does NTA publish official chapter-wise weightage for NEET 2027?
No. NTA publishes the syllabus and the exam pattern, but not how many questions each chapter will carry. Every NEET weightage table, including this one, is made by counting questions in past papers.
Which Biology chapters have the highest weightage in NEET?
In AAYAM's analysis of the NEET 2026 paper, Ecology alone had 11 questions, Genetics and Evolution had 14 across three chapters, and Human Physiology had 12. Molecular Basis of Inheritance (6), Biotechnology (8 across two chapters), Animal Kingdom (5) and Biomolecules (5) were also heavy.
Is Biology more important than Physics and Chemistry in NEET?
Biology has 90 of the 180 questions, so it carries 360 of the 720 marks. It is usually the most scoring section because many questions follow NCERT closely. But Physics and Chemistry together carry the other 360 marks, and they often decide the difference between close ranks.
Which part of Chemistry carries the most weightage in NEET?
The three branches are close. In the NEET 2026 paper, Physical Chemistry had 16 questions, Organic 15 and Inorganic 14. Because the split is so even, no branch can be skipped.
Which Physics chapters are most important for NEET 2027?
In the NEET 2026 paper, Current Electricity had the most questions of any Physics chapter (5). Electrostatics, Semiconductors, Atoms and Nuclei, SHM and Units and Dimensions had 3 each. Electricity and magnetism together gave 14 of the 45 Physics questions.
Is Class 12 more important than Class 11 for NEET?
Class 12 had slightly more questions in the NEET 2026 paper (97 against 83), but the split is close to half and half. Class 11 topics such as Animal Kingdom, Biomolecules, Chemical Bonding and Mechanics still carry many marks.
Can I skip low-weightage chapters for NEET 2027?
It is risky. A chapter with one question in one year can have three the next. Short chapters such as Microbes in Human Welfare or Units and Dimensions are quick to learn, so skipping them throws away easy marks.
